The 18th annual Academy Awards ceremony was held March 7, 1946, at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, Hollywood, CA. It was the first awards ceremony to be held after the end of World War II, a fact not overlooked by the newspapers. Here is an article which appeared in the Bakersfield Californian, Bakersfield, CA.
The next appeared in the Daily Review, Hayward, CA:
According to the story in the Bakersfield Californian, Stewart would be the master of ceremonies for the first half of the program and Bob Hope would take on the same role for the second half. Unfortunately, it appears that only the second half of the program was actually broadcast by ABC. The major awards were given during this segment. This portion of the show is available and Jimmy is nowhere to be heard.
