Chesterfield Supper Club

Chesterfield Supper Club was a popular 15-minute daily program on NBC that was hosted most of the year by Perry Como. However, for thirteen weeks during the summer of 1947 it was hosted alternately by Tex Beneke and Frankie Carle.

On September 3, 1947, Tex Beneke was the host. The show received little more than a listing in the daily radio section of newspapers. Here’s an example from the Tucson Daily Citizen, Tucson, AZ.

Jimmy Stewart also appeared for the first of three times on the show that day. He wasn’t a guest, but instead delivered just a single sentence to a Chesterfield commercial. His line, “I’ve smoked Chesterfields for years and find they completely satisfy,” was pre-recorded and played at the appropriate time.

Eddie Hubbard was the show’s announcer and Beneke lead the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Audio for the show is not available, but here is the script for you to read and enjoy.
