Desert Island Discs is a staple of the BBC Radio in England. It has been on the air since January 29, 1942, except for 1946-1951, when it was off the air. The show was created and hosted by Roy Plomley, seen below at a BBC microphone.
Plomley hosted a total of 1,791 shows over the 43 years he acted as host. The show is still being aired today on BBC Radio 4.
Each week, a different celebrity was the guest. They were interviewed and asked to name eight records they would like to have on the legendary desert island with them. They also got to pick a book and a luxury item to take with them.
Jimmy Stewart appeared on the show twice – May 25, 1974, and this date. When Jimmy Stewart on the Air was published, we were able to list the records, book and luxury item, but the audio of this appearance was not available. Since then, the audio has been made available on the BBC Desert Island website.
