The newspaper listings took very little notice of Stewart’s guest appearance on this show, with most listings similar to the one below from the Independent Press-Telegram, Long Beach, CA:
This show is not available, but since all of Stewart’s other appearances have been documented, this is most likely the program in which Jimmy and Mortimer Snerd played farmers. That sketch has been rebroadcast several times – June 20, 1954, May 6, 1956, and November 15, 1964, in the Chase and Sanborn 100th Anniversary Show.
Even though it appears in several other blogs, we’ll include it here again to save you the trouble of searching for it.
Updated materials added June 1, 2017:
First, several new newspaper clippings from the day of the broadcast have been located. The first, from The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, IA, has Stewart appearing with Mortimer Snerd in a skit.
The next, from The Akron Beacon Journal, Akron, OH, has Jimmy taking acting lessons from Charlie McCarthy.
The second new item is a 4-page, plus an addendum, contract for this program signed by both Stewart and Edgar Bergen.
The contract states that the program is “presently scheduled to be on April 11, 1953.” The program was actually broadcast one month later.
The addendum, initialed by Stewart and Bergen is really interesting. Make sure you read it. It’s easy to understand why some of today’s stars might have to sign such a statement…but Jimmy Stewart?
