To mark the one year anniversary of Hollywood Byline, a special show consisting of clips from the first year’s shows was pieced today and broadcast on September 21, 1950. This date also marked the half-hour show’s switch to a new day and time – Thursday at 10 p.m. on the east coast. The show was hosted by Hank Weaver and broadcast by ABC.
The show is not available, but this clipping from The Winona Republican-Herald, Winona, MN, gives us a good idea of the content.
The following celebrities appear: Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Kirk Douglas, Jimmy Durante, John Garfield, Betty Hutton, Charles Laughton, Mercedes McCambridge, Ronald Reagan, Ginger Rogers, Mickey Rooney, Gloria Swanson and Jimmy Stewart. Some of the reporters handling the interviews were: Bob Thomas, Virginia MacPherson, Darr Smith, Sidney Skolsky, Mickell Novak, Gloria Grant and Lloyd Sloan.
Of course, this means that Stewart had appeared on the show sometime during its first year of broadcast (September 1949-Spetember, 1950), but an exact date has yet to be established.
