In 1988, Stewart did spots for Campbell’s Home Cookin’ soups for both radio and television.
The fact that Stewart was not seen in the TV commercials, led to some doubt that it was actually his voice the listeners were hearing. But that was all cleared up by newspaper reporters and articles like the one below from the Daily Herald, Chicago, IL, December 28, 1988:
The radio spots are not directly mention in the story, but it is interesting to read that Stewart had a “hand stand-in” for the TV spots.
Here’s another article which fails to mention the radio end of these commercials. This one is from the Schenectady Gazette, Schenectady, NY, of October 13, 1989:
The radio commercials apparently did quite well for the company as evidenced by this article from Frohlinger’s Marketing Strategist Vol. III, No. 3, January 29, 1990:
In the late 80’s, commercials were being delivered to radio stations either on discs or on reel-to-reel tape. Since no copies of a disc have ever turned up in more than ten years of searching, we have to assume that these were on tape. Tracking down copies has proved fruitless. They must be out there; if you have copies, or know where copies can be found, please let us know.
