This is a 7-inch, 33 1/3 RPM record featuring 18 public service messages from 12 different celebrities and was issued to radio stations in 1968. Stewart’s 60-second message appears on side two of the disc along with those from Robert Goulet, Walter Pidgeon (also on side one), Nancy Sinatra (also on side one), Pat O’Brien, Charlton Heston (also on side one), Dinah Shore (also on side one), Jerry Lewis (also on side one) and Richard Benjamin (also on side one). The other celebrities on side one are Jonathan Winters, Fred MacMurray and Paula Prentiss.
In Jimmy’s message, he says:
“Hello, I’m Jimmy Stewart. The young people growing up in Eastern Europe today have never lived under any political system but communism. They’ve been brought up and educated solely in the communist way of life. It’s frightening to think that a whole generation of East Europeans could grow up to positions of leadership with such a one-sided background. Fortunately, the communist regimes have not been able to maintain their monopoly of information. For eighteen years, the powerful voice of Radio Free Europe has been cutting through the wall of propaganda surrounding the young people of Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania. So write to Radio Free Europe for more information on East Europe and how RFE is helping East European young people to chart their future course; the address, Radio Free Europe, Box 1968, Mount Vernon, New York. Thank you.”
