For Christmas of 1977, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir released the album White Christmas (Columbia Masterworks M 34546).
The album was recorded with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra. Songs included on the album were:
White Christmas (in film)
Silver Bells
I’ll Be Home for Christmas
Winter Wonderland (in film)
Carol of the Drum (Little Drummer Boy)
The Christmas Song
Sleigh Ride (in film)
Baby, What You Goin’ to Be?
Christmas Bells Are Ringing
Lullaby
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
The album was issued as a boxed set, even though it contained only the one album and a four page booklet of some of the favorite Christmas recipes of the members of the choir.
Three years later, when the film Mr. Krueger’s Christmas was made, Jimmy Stewart is seen with the album in his hands and placing the record on his turntable. Several songs from the album are heard playing. The choir and its director, Jerold D. Ottley, also appeared in the film which, by the way, was made for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At that point, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s website began advertising the fact that some of the music from the album (3 songs) had been used in the made-for-TV film. So, this album is as close to a soundtrack album as there is for the film.
This information remains on the site to this day.
