The film Cheyenne Social Club, starring Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda and Shirley Jones, was released in the summer of 1970. If you were told there was going to be a song released from the film, you would probably guess that it would be sung by Shirley Jones, but you’d be dead wrong. Instead, the single was credited to James Stewart and Henry Fonda and was issued by National General Records (NGR 007). It even came with a nice picture sleeve.
Although the label says 3:00, the song actually clocks in at closer to 2:42. As you might suspect, the record failed to chart.
Billboard didn’t take much notice of the single, but Cash Box reviewed it in its July 4, 1970, edition.
It was also reviewed in the July 4, 1970, edition of Record World.
A shorter (1:22) version of the song is also available on the CD, Rio Bravo Western and Other Movie and TV Themes Bear Family Records (BCD 16328 AR).
