On January 13, 1954, The Glenn Miller Story had its premiere in Clarinda, Iowa, Miller’s hometown; Jimmy Stewart was on hand. This article, from the Mason City Globe-Gazette, Mason City, IA, tells of some of the planned activities.
Notice the mention of “special radio programs” in the article. Another article, this one from the Anderson, Indiana, Herald, also makes mention of Stewart’s radio appearances.
It is very difficult to document these radio appearances, because most were not mentioned in radio listings. In fact the only mention that has been found and verified is this one which appeared in the Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, WI, on January 16, 1954:
The show is not available. It most likely was only heard in the mid-western area and had no national hook-up.
While out on the promotional tour, Stewart, and his co-star June Allyson, were photographed with Miller’s wife and children. The following photo appeared in the Waterloo Daily Courier, Waterloo, IA, on January 28, 1954.
