Suspense – The Rescue

When we began researching this particular show, the audio was not completely available. Approximately 10-minutes at the end of the show were missing from all the available copies. Continuing our research, we came across a script in the collection of the Thousand Oaks Library System in California. An email to them brought us a quick reply – although they could not make a copy of the script, Special Collections Librarian Jeanette Berard, read and summarized the ending for us.

Before our final publication date, a full copy of the show made its first appearance. It was taken from an Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) 16-inch transcription disc. The find was made by Randy Riddle and published in his excellent blog, Rand’s Esoteric.

Mr. Stewart plays the role of Lee Atherton. Others in the play include: Sylvia Simms as Helen Sellers, Joyce McClusky as Hilary, Lou Merrill as Dr. Radin, Joseph Kearns as Jack and the clerk, Peggy Webber as the nurse and a woman, Ted Osborne as Dr. Brune, Jack Kruschen as Lt. Rogers and a tailor and Sidney Miller as the poet.

Here are two newspaper previews of the show. The first is from the Tucson Daily Citizen, Tucson, AZ, and the second is from the Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, WI.

Notice that both refer to Atherton’s dilemma in the story – is Hilary about to be murdered and commit suicide?
