The word plethora more than applies to the number of releases and re-releases of The Glenn Miller Story in Germany.
Let’s begin in 1955 with the release of the 10-inch, 33 1/3 RPM album, Die Glenn Miller Story (Brunswick 86 027 LPB). The album was released three times with slightly different colored jackets. The first came in July of 1955.
The second release came two months later, with the sleeve color being changed to green.
Finally, in November, it was issued with an orange sleeve.
The labels on all three releases were the same.
When the album was first re-issued, the color of the cover was again changed.
In 1959, the album was released with a new cover design, but the same release number.
When the album was reissued in 1961, it carried a new release number – Brunswick 87 043 LPBM.
A 1970 re-issue had another new cover and label (MCA 201 529).
In 1985, when the soundtrack was re-issued worldwide, the Germany cover was the same as that issued in other countries.
Let’s move on to the EP’s. Volume 1 was released in December of 1956. Two different styles were available. Here is a look at the first.
The labels are the same for the second style, but the jacket has changed.
Volume 2 was also issued in two styles.
In March of 1954, three singles were issued in Germany in both 10-inch, 78 RPM and 7-inch, 45 RPM formats.
Moonlight Serenade/Tuxedo Junction
St. Louis Blues March/American Patrol
Little Brown Jug/Pennsylvania 6-5000
A fourth 7-inch single was released early in 1955.
