To help promote the film, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Paramount issued a special 12-inch, one-sided, 33 1/3 RPM record with 12 different radio spots (three each at 60-seconds, 30-seconds, 20-seconds and 10-seconds).
It is interesting to note that the first six spots featured Gene Pitney’s hit record, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, even though the song was not used in the film. According to Pitney himself, Paramount paid for his recording session, but released the film before the song was completely finished. He was not sure why.
Here are the three 60-second spots. The first is generic, the second features the voices of Stewart and John Wayne in a scene from the film and the third has Lee Marvin’s voice.
