On the show of May 6, 1956, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy celebrated their 20th year on the air. The program was heavily advertised in the media. This first preview is from the Avalanche-Journal, Lubbock, TX.
This display ad appeared in The Decatur Daily Review, Decatur, IL.
A slightly different display ad was run by the Albuquerque Journal, Albuquerque, NM.
Finally, this very interesting photo and story appeared in the San Antonio Express and News, San Antonio, TX.
The first part of the show was basically a repeat of the 16th anniversary program with some minor editing to remove the commercials and references to their 16 years on the air. Jimmy Stewart appears in this portion of the program in his farm sketch with Mortimer Snerd. Here, in two parts, is that segment of the show. New clips appearing in this show included a song from Rudy Wissler, a do-it-yourself routine with Professor Kirkwood and a “Meet the People” segment with lady birdwatcher Grace Harvard Philips.
Presented here in four parts, here is that complete 20th anniversary program. Mr. Stewart appears in the second segment.
