The Six Shooter came back to radio for a time in the eighties. The first hint of this came to our attention in the Radio & Records Program Suppliers Guide ’88. The following ad appeared in the “Drama/Nostalgia” section:
There were originally 39 shows in the series, plus an audition show, for a total of 40. It is unlikely that we’ll never know which 31 shows were included in this series of re-runs.
A quick search of newspapers soon turned up many listings, all from the Orange County Register, Santa Ana, CA, and all for radio station KNX. The first of these appeared in the January 8, 1986, edition:
If you look closely at this feature, you’ll also notice that Stewart’s name is mentioned on Monday evening when the Screen Directors’ Playhouse was to air. The titles of these programs did not appear in any of the ads, so we can’t be sure when the Stewart shows were broadcast. However, we do know that these shows were syndicated to stations by Golden Age Radio Theatre. Two of the show – #188, Next Time We Love and #204, Jackpot – did star Jimmy Stewart. Both of these are covered in the blogs for the original shows.
No further listings for The Six Shooter were seen until February 27, 1987, when this ad appeared:
This same ad was found thirteen more times through July 31, 1987. At this point, the ad seemed to have vanished. But, on February 5, 1988, a slightly different ad began appearing:
As you can see, the line-up has changed slightly for other days, but Thursday’s is still the same. This ad appeared weekly through April 8, 1988. From that point on no ads could be located.
