In its September 13, 1947, edition, Billboard magazine ran the following article about the Tommy Dorsey disc jockey show.
According to the article, New York City radio station WMCA kicks off the first broadcast on September 8, 1947, with a great many guests. One of those guests was Jimmy Stewart. Stewart was in New York at the time, having just finished a stint as Elwood P. Down in Harvey, substituting for the vacationing Frank Fay. It is unclear whether all those listed in the article actually appeared on the show with Dorsey that day, or just recorded segments for later programs. Since they are referred to as “sessions,” the latter is most likely the case.
The Stewart appearance on the program came on October 31 of that year, according to this listing from The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore, MD, of that date.
Jimmy Stewart’s name was also used in some advertising for the show. The following full-page ad (actually, it’s part of a two-page ad) is from the January 19, 1948, edition of Broadcasting.
