Jimmy Stewart was one of several guests appearing on the Boy Scout Jamboree broadcast of 1950. On the East coast, the program was aired from 1:30-2 p.m. The program is not available and all we know about it has been gleaned from newspaper clippings. The first of these is from The Brooklyn Eagle, Brooklyn, NY:
The next comes from the New York Times:
The final preview appeared in the Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, WI, and featured a photo of Stewart:
All three agree that Stewart was to be a guest, along with William “Hopalong Cassidy” Boyd. The New York papers also list Hal Peary, radio’s “Great Gildersleeve,” as a guest. Only the Wisconsin State Journal has Bob Hope also appearing. Scouting executives Amory Houghton and Arthur A. Schuck were also scheduled to speak.
Update: February 20, 2018
We are adding this recently found listing from the Detroit Free Press. It identifies Hal Peary by his radio character’s name, The Great Gildersleeve, rather than by his given name.
