One of the radio shows outlined in our book was the Community Chest – A Salute to Volunteers program broadcast on September 26, 1947. At first, all we could find on the program were several newspaper ads and articles like the ones below:
Despite all the press for the program, it looked like the show itself had been lost to history. Then two acetate discs featuring parts 1, 2, 5 and 6 of the program were auctioned off on Ebay. We won the discs and as luck would have it, Stewart’s appearance was a part of these discs. In fact, he was the first to appear and introduced the show.
He wasn’t heard again on any of the other sides and it is not likely that he appeared on the two missing sides (3-4) either. Here is how he introduced the program:
