Back in the 1970’s, Jimmy Stewart was involved in a campaign sponsored by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. It was called “Every Letter Counts.” The idea was to have people write letters to the Canadian government asking them to stop the clubbing to death of baby harp seals.
We highlighted these public service announcements in our book, but add a label scan and audio here to make clearer Mr. Stewart’s involvement.
Besides the celebrities listed above on side two, those on side one were: Henry Fonda, Mary Tyler Moore, Brian Davies (the director of the International Fund for Animals Welfare), Donnie Osmond, Anne Baxter, Burgess Meredith and Hugh O’Brien.
Despite their impassioned pleas, now almost 40 years later, the annual slaughter continues.
