We reported in Jimmy Stewart on the Air that Stewart was chairman of the 1983 Salvation Army Christmas Campaign. The announcement of his appointment to this position was reported in many newspapers, including the Spokane Chronicle, Spokane, WA (November 26, 1983) and the Steinbach Carillon, Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada (December 14, 1983).
According to both of these articles, Stewart would appear in both radio and televisions announcements asking for donations. None of these announcements, if they were in fact made, have been located. In fact, only print ads, like this one from the Burlington Hawk Eye, Burlington, IA, have been found during our research.
