Here is some additional information about Stewart’s appearance on The Barbara Welles Show which was documented in our book.
As mentioned in the book, there was not really a “Barbara Welles,” instead the host of the show was Florence Pritchett. What we didn’t know at the time was that she had only been on the job about two and a half months when Stewart appeared on the July 27, 1947 program. Her hiring was noted in the May 7th edition of Radio Daily:
A few months after Jimmy’s appearance, her show was successful enough for WOR to place this ad in Billboard magazine (October 18, 1947) in a search for advertising:
Pritchett’s interview with Stewart takes up the entire second half of the program for the day. They begin by talking about Harvey, the play in which Stewart was currently starring on Broadway. This leads Jimmy to begin a sometimes confusing outline of the things that can go wrong during a stage play.
Below, Pritchett and Stewart enjoy a relaxing moment together over drinks at the Stork Club.
