Also in our collection is an acetate test pressing for the album:
As can be seen from the acetate test pressing for the soundtrack album shown below, the early title for the film was Lassie, My Lassie. The running order for the songs was also different for the released version.
When You’re Loved, by Debbie Boone was also issued as a single – Warner/Curb 8633. The single charted on the Billboard Easy Listening chart on August 26, 1978, at #50. It was on the chart for four weeks, rising as high as #48.
When You’re Loved was nominated for an Oscar as “Best Original Song” and was performed by Debby Boone at the 51st Academy Awards show (April 9, 1979). It lost to Let’s Dance from the film Thank God It’s Friday.
Someone at Warner/Curb must have liked the song because it was issued two more times with a different flip side each time, In Memory of Your Love on 8700 and Breakin’ in a Brand New Broken Heart on 8814.
Boone’s version was also available on her album, Midstream (Warner/Curb 3130). The album entered the Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart at #175 on August 12, 1978. It was on the chart for five weeks, rising as high as #147.
Several soundtrack songs not on the U.S. release can be found on the British soundtrack album (Pickwick SHM 992), released in 1979.
This version includes all of the above tracks, plus:
Nobody’s Property (Instrumental) – Orchestra conducted by Irwin Kostal
A Rose Is Not a Rose – Alice Faye
When You’re Loved (Reprise) – Debby Boone
The album was also issued in New Zealand.
The songs were the same as those on the U.S. album.
